Understanding Suno's Weirdness and Influence Settings
Suno's two main generation parameters — Weirdness and Style Influence — are simple sliders with surprisingly big impact. Most users leave them at defaults. That's fine for casual use, but adjusting them gives you much more control over your output.
Weirdness: How Far from Normal
The Weirdness slider controls how much Suno deviates from conventional musical patterns. Low values produce predictable, genre-accurate output. High values introduce unusual choices — unexpected instruments, non-standard rhythms, surprising transitions.
For tracks that need to be reliably good and listenable, keep it under 50%. For experimental exploration where you're happy to regenerate several times, push it higher.
Very high Weirdness (80%+) is genuinely unpredictable — sometimes brilliant, sometimes chaotic. It's worth trying, but don't expect consistency.
Style Influence: How Closely to Follow Your Prompt
Style Influence determines how tightly Suno adheres to your style prompt. At 100%, it treats your prompt as a strict specification. At low values, it interprets loosely and follows its own instincts.
High influence (75–100%) is essential when using a precise, tested style preset. If you've gone to the trouble of crafting or finding the right prompt, you want Suno to actually follow it.
Medium influence (40–70%) works when your lyrics should drive the feel and the style prompt is just a loose guide.
Low influence (0–30%) is pure exploration. The model surprises you. Sometimes that's exactly what you want.
How They Work Together
These two settings interact. High Weirdness + high Style Influence creates something unusual but still within your genre constraints. High Weirdness + low Style Influence is full chaos mode — no guardrails.
The most reliable combination for quality output:
- Style Influence: 70–90%
- Weirdness: 20–40%
This follows your prompt closely while keeping things interesting.
